What is color contrast and why is it important?

Color contrast is the difference in brightness between text and its background. It’s crucial for:

  • Readability, especially in low-light or low-vision conditions.

  • Accessibility—WCAG recommends a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for body text.

Font size matters too—larger text can meet a slightly lower contrast ratio (3:1), while small text requires higher contrast to stay readable.

Use tools like WebAIM’s contrast checker to test your color combinations.
