What are secondary and accent colors?

In UI design:

  • Secondary colors support the primary color. They're often used for backgrounds, borders, icons, and less important buttons. Their role is to provide visual structure without competing for attention.

  • Accent colors are used sparingly to draw attention—like for highlights, notifications, tags, or interactive elements.

Use them to:

  • Differentiate sections or states (e.g., warning, success, error).

  • Maintain visual hierarchy and guide the user.

  • Avoid clutter—too many colors can confuse rather than clarify.
