What is line height and why does it matter?

Line height (also called leading) is the vertical space between lines of text.

  • Improves readability: Too tight = crowded. Too loose = disjointed.

  • Good rule: 1.4–1.6× the font size (e.g., 16px text → ~24px line height).

  • Helps scannability: Especially on long-form content or small screens.
