Supercharge Designer Spotlight:
Jarar Malik
Welcome to this edition of Supercharge Designer Spotlight, where we celebrate the journeys of extraordinary designers who are reshaping the industry.
Read on as we delve into Jarar’s journey, his sources of inspiration, and his invaluable contributions to the design world in greater detail.
What made you interested in design in general? What drew you to UX/UI design particularly?
I initially became interested in design as a natural extension of my passion for marketing and building businesses.
While still a student, I had a startup idea and needed a prototype, but I couldn’t find anyone to do it for free. So, I took matters into my own hands, learning design and creating the prototype myself in Adobe XD. That prototype even helped me secure angel investment, which reinforced the value of design in bringing ideas to life.
I also recognized the powerful synergy between marketing and design, which inspired me to continue developing my skills independently in UX/UI design.
What was the most significant or memorable project of your career so far? Why did you pick that one?
The most significant project of my career so far has to be Euler.finance, my first venture into the Web3 space.
I was one of the first hires and had the opportunity to work with the company for two years, witnessing its incredible growth from $800,000 to $48 million in funding and a total value locked (TVL) of $800 million.
This project was memorable not only for the success we achieved but also because it reinforced my passion for decentralization, which I firmly believe is the future.
Since then, I’ve been natively focused on Web3 and DeFi as a product designer, driven by the transformative potential these technologies hold.
How would you describe your approach to design overall? What principles guide your work the most?
My approach to design is centered around minimalism and efficiency, with a focus on creating solutions that are accessible to a wide audience.
I believe that good design should simplify the user’s experience, removing unnecessary complexities while delivering functionality in a straightforward manner.
I’m guided by the principle that less is more—each element should have a purpose and contribute to the overall user journey.
I also prioritize scalability and usability, ensuring that my designs cater to both beginners and seasoned users.
By blending these principles, I aim to create intuitive, effective designs that can resonate with a diverse range of users.
What skills do you see as indispensable for a modern UX/UI designer?
For a modern UX/UI designer, skills in creating minimal, efficient designs are essential.
Key skills include user-centered thinking to ensure designs are built for the masses, proficiency in prototyping tools like Figma, and a focus on usability and scalability.
Additionally, strong collaboration and clear communication help ensure that designs resonate with diverse audiences and align with project goals.
How do you maintain your work-life balance? What activities do you enjoy outside of design/work?
I keep work-life balance by fueling my need for speed!
When I’m not designing, you’ll find me tinkering with my car and bike collection or hitting the open road.
I’ve traveled to over 50 countries, and I’m always on the lookout for new places to explore.
Riding superbikes professionally is my ultimate thrill—it keeps me energized and ready for the next design challenge!
What are the biggest changes you expect to see in the design industry over the years? What trends excite you the most?
I expect to see a significant shift as the design industry embraces Web3 and the move from centralized to decentralized systems.
This transition will require designers to rethink user flows, prioritize transparency, and adapt interfaces for blockchain-driven interactions.
I’m especially excited about creating designs that empower users with more control and autonomy, breaking away from traditional Web2 norms.
The chance to innovate in this space and help build a more decentralized, user-centric world is truly inspiring.
What advice would you give to aspiring designers?
My advice to aspiring designers is to never stop learning and stay adaptable.
The design landscape is constantly evolving, so being open to change is crucial.
Embrace new trends and technologies, especially in the Web3 space, where there are exciting opportunities to innovate.
Aim to be one of the pioneers in this field—your willingness to explore and grow will set you apart and lead to incredible opportunities.
Jarar’s passion for design is fuelled by his love for innovation and simplicity. His focus on minimal, accessible solutions and his excitement for the future of decentralized systems set him apart as a forward-thinking leader in the design world.
